Allie’s point of view.

When I thought about falling in love, I never dreamed I would fall for an angel. I lay beside Eve in bed, watching her sleep. She’s on her stomach with her head resting on her folded arms. I’m on my side with my arm across her lower back. Her body is flawless except for the v-shaped scars on her shoulder blades. The wounds have healed, but I know the wound inside of her remains raw.

I trace the marks on her back with my fingers. The spot where she is most vulnerable. The place that once made her feel unstoppable now tears her down. I wish I could’ve seen her wings. I wish I could see the way she stood with them stretched out wide behind her. I can picture it, but to see it in real life would’ve been something all of its own. I try to be gentle so she doesn’t notice but the moment I stop, she opens her tired eyes.

“I miss them,” she says.

“We will get them back.”

She gives me a half-grin. I brush her hair from the side of her face.

“I will be your wings, Eve.” I kiss her forehead. “I will keep you from falling and I will carry you when you think you can’t go anymore. I already know your true identity.”

The words rush from my lips before I can think about what I’m saying. I know Eve misses her wings, but I don’t want her to think she is in this alone. I will be everything for her that her wings once stood for.

“You lost them because of me and there’s nothing I wouldn’t do to get them back for you.”

“You’re wrong, baby.” She sits up on her elbows and kisses my lips. “I lost them for you,” I say.

“I’m not convinced there is a difference.”

She kisses my neck and down my collarbone. “Do you want to argue with me?” Eve asks, moving to my chest.

“Not when you’re distracting me… like this.” I hold her face in between my hands and pull her lips back to mine.

She kisses me back harder than she did at first. I hold her waist against me and love the feeling of her warm body against mine. Eve bites my bottom lip playfully, and I can’t help but love the slight aggression. My body yearns for more, but my mind tells me to slow down.

“I think we need to get out of this bed.” I smile.

“I disagree. We need to stay here forever.” She twirls a few strands of my hair around her fingers and kisses me once more.

Teaser part 2.

Does Eve know what it will entail? Are we going to be able to make it through together? I don’t know the answers to any of these questions and right now, it doesn’t matter.

I push them from my mind and focus on Eve and how she looks now. Hair undone, half-clothed, and perfectly beautiful. She leans in for a kiss and rests her forehead against mine afterwards. I want to stay this way, dancing through our troubles and forever in love.

Eve pulls me closer to her. For once in my life, I feel loved and safe. It sounds absurd to feel that way after what she’s just explained to me, but I do. Being with her has healed parts of myself I thought were forever scarred.

Instead of worrying about what could happen to us, I decide to live in the here and now. I breathe in her rain and fresh air scent. I move my hands up her arms to her shoulders, lightly. The way she likes. She smiles, knowing what I want.

Eve brushes my hair away from my face with her hand. I tilt my head and rest it towards her touch and close my eyes. She kisses me softly at first, but her kisses turn more passionate by the second.

Eve moves to my neck. The place she knows excites me the most. I exhale and try to hold onto my sanity. She traces her fingers over my collarbone. I know her lips will soon follow that same path.

“Let’s… go to the bedroom,” I breathe.

She picks me up and I wrap my legs around her waist. She continues lavishing me with kisses on the way to the bed. Eve lays me on the down, her body rests on top of mine.

I hold her hips against mine and slide my fingers between her underwear and the hem of her shirt, raising it just enough to feel her warm skin. She doesn’t wait for me to move any further. She sits up and removes her shirt in one swift motion.

“Impatient, are we?” I smile.

“It was irritating my back.”

“Sure, it was.” I tease.

Eve slides my pants off, kissing my thighs as she uncovers more of my skin.

My body tingles with eagerness to be with Eve.

She crawls into bed with me, sliding her hands along my sides under my shirt. She continues her path upward, removing my shirt and tossing it to the floor.

I gasp and pull her body closer to mine.

She kisses my neck once more.

“I don’t deserve you.” She pauses, taking my hand in hers. “But, I’m so unbelievably happy.”

I smile and wrap my arm around her.

“I’m ready,” I whisper.

“Allie.” She begins, but I press my finger to her lips.

She smiles.

I tuck her hair behind her ear and look into her eyes. To remember this moment with her. Her cheeks flushed from excitement, the happiness shining in those fiery eyes of hers. The way her hands touch, explore, and devour my every curve. My every flaw is shadowed by the love she has for me.

I kiss her lips and feel her hands gripping my sides. I know what she wants. The same thing I do. It’s hard to breathe when all you want to do is remember every touch. Every feeling. Every kiss. To stay in the moment forever.

The world we know is falling apart, but right here, right now, nothing else matters. The only thing that matters is us. We are one. United by love, nothing can stop us. Nothing can divide us.

My body aches with happiness. We both took a nap, but now Eve is busy cooking up something in the kitchen. Still sporting that t-shirt. I sit at the counter on a bar stool, watching her dance around the kitchen to her own tune. Rain still falls outside.

“I could watch you do that all day,” I say.

“Could you?”

“You’re very distracting.”

“You need to eat something.”

I feel my face redden.

“Well, you know what I mean.” She winks.

“What are you making?” I smile.

“Mac and cheese, of course!”

“My favorite!

She turns to me and smiles. “I know, baby.”

When the food’s ready, she brings me a bowl and sits down beside me with hers. I eat it so fast, she just stares at me.

“What?”

“Did you enjoy it at all, or did you just inhale it?”

I laugh.

“Oh, don’t worry. I enjoyed it.”
